Hello Child of God,
I know it has been a while since I last posted something related to Christianity and I am afraid this will be more of a rant. I apologise for that in case you were seeking some encouragement, I too am seeking some encouragement.
So I have been single for a while and looking into dating. I am a google scholar honestly, anything that crosses my mind ends up in a google search. So recently I have searched how do people who are dating remain pure till they get hitched? And the most common answers among the blogs I went through was to have an accountability partner.
My mind started racing in search of who I could find to make my accountability partner now and when I start dating. Naturally I look into the resources offered by the church and they are all for couples(engaged/married/families). This for me is a little bit discouraging because I am not going to marry the next guy I meet within our first two dates, I still need to get to know him and still guard my heart from temptation and trust me after all that I have read and from past experience(I have a child) it is not something easy to do alone.
I find that often times as single Christians we are left to fend for ourselves, we are not protected like the married people are. One blogger stated that it is often assumed that we are doing things right. The danger to that is that we get used to having that part of our lives to ourselves because it is so awkward to talk about and confess our short falls to our brethren. In my case it is the matter of finding a platform that is inviting, it does not have to be inviting honestly the title could read 'walking the purity line' or 'abstaining in Christ', I don't care but as long as it is there and available for us to go to and see we are not alone in the struggle the better.
As I am writing this to you , I am finding some encouragement to leave you if you are in a situation where you are going through this road alone and have had some shortfalls. First remember that there is always a chance to start again in God, His mercy is never-ending but it does not mean you should not try and repent. Do not let your last short fall hinder you from continuing the walk of abstinence. Keep looking for help until you find it. I have only learned about this now and I wish I learned about it over a year ago. As Christians I believe we are not meant to live our lives in secrecy, our lives are meant to be a testimony that will win others over to Christ.
If you are lucky enough to know and have an accountability partner or mentor you can open up to about your struggles in abstinence single or dating, don't be afraid to be open to them, spare the details though. And if you don't get the help that you need, keep looking. I am on that journey where I am now looking for help, so that I don't walk on this road alone. We are meant to do life together as a community, if there are people there to help you make this journey easier, use them.
Please drop your thoughts below and let me know what has been your experience and leave some suggestions as well on how to approach this situation to a mutual friend in Christ.
Until next post , God bless...
